The Restorer (The Graveyard Queen Series)

"We southerners worship our ancestors." - Amelia
Papa had told her never to make eye contact with them. He also told her to ignore their touch. His most important rule, stay away from the haunted.
Amelia is known as the Graveyard Queen for her talents in restoring cemeteries to their former glories. She can tell you about an effigy and what it means, why a tombstone is facing the opposite direction, and what her papa told her about ghosts when she sees them.
However, as she takes on a new job in an old Charleston graveyard, only a day later a murder victim surfaces, now, Amelia isn’t a suspect but a consultant, asked personally by Detective John Devlin who’s haunted himself.
As Amelia and the detective start to piece the first murder together, their job begins to get harder, and a connection between the two is forging. The Graveyard Queen starts to make the right connections all across the board as she uses her other senses along the way and mistakenly forgetting papa’s most important rule.
This story was a pleasant surprise, and I’m playing it down. When I had gotten to the end, I was salivating with excitement, ready to read the next installment of the series. Amelia’s tale is so much more than a ghost story; it is a calling. Her journey throughout the book is quite exciting as she goes from being the isolated cemetery restorer to murder case consultant, then fully embracing her otherworldly instincts that she was born with. She was able to prove to herself that she had something similar to a gift.
Her and Devlin were hard to tear away from as their connection grew, and the lingering facts about him piled up. In the end, it was not what I had expected; however, this ending is enough to make me want to continue to read to figure out what happens to Devlin’s character.
I recommend to those that enjoy a good paranormal story with substance, those who love a romance with struggle, and those who love mysteries and thrillers.
